Another successful round of Health & Wellbeing projects has been completed! We’re excited to share the happy faces and testimonials from teachers and students alike that enjoyed the relationships with local organisations brokered by MADE.

  • We believe that all engagement with young people should be trauma-informed – therefore all teachers and facilitators were previously trained in trauma-informed practice before the projects began.
  • We promoted the 5 ways to wellbeing to teach young people how to better manage their mental health: connect, get active, take notice, learn & give.

Through these explorations we plan to work towards developing approaches that involve working with even more schools next year.

Burnage Academy x Z-arts x Odd Arts

Two planters were beautifully painted by the young people at Burnage Academy, contributing to a ‘wellbeing garden’ that would brighten up the campus. The young people took ownership of this space, working with a mural painter to design and paint wooden planters to create a welcoming, safe, quiet space for students to use.

A group of boys then worked with Odd Arts facilitators to explore identity through drama, devising a play that would express the different external pressures and role models that shaped their identity. They took the lead in designing, writing and choreographing this impactful piece of drama.

Our Lady’s RC High School x Brighter Sound x Afrocats

A small group of young people with complex needs enjoyed sessions with Brighter Sound’s Tim Chatterton creating music. Meanwhile, two other groups enjoyed learning animation and dance with Afrocats to get their bodies moving and learn a new creative skill.

‘Such an enjoyable and positive experience working with Tim, Riaghnuch and Tom they made the whole project an easy and happy event, one of the best organisations I’ve ever worked with in school. Brighter Sounds put our students at ease immediately encouraging 1 student who was very resistant and adapting to his needs. The whole project ran smoothly, timescales were met and the students and I were sad when it came to an end and we had to say goodbye’. – Mrs Gill Pastoral manager

A massive thank you to the teachers who so enthusiastically joined us in our mission to make an understanding of student health & wellbeing a cornerstone of education!
