Here at MADE we are proudly local. Our Employability Task Group is made up of cultural organisations and education providers that span the city, and when we asked our teachers what we could do to help in Careers Week, the answer came back loud and clear.
Anita Brotherton, careers lead at Parrs Wood High School, told us:
“What we need is a deep-dive into job roles at a few of Manchester’s exciting cultural and creative organisations. We need a 360-degree mapping which will show young people that not all jobs in the creative and cultural industries are risky and hard to get into.”
This consultation with members who work directly with hundreds of Manchester’s young people every week has driven a grassroots response from members of MADE’s Employability Group, who started #JoiningTheDots, a project which creates resources to give granular insights into local people working in creative and cultural organisations around the city.
Resources for National Careers Week
The resources we’re showcasing this week are from The Manchester Museum and HOME.

Barinur Rashid, the Museum’s Secondary and Post-16 Learning Coordinator, said:
“We’ve created these resources with young people in mind to highlight the range of careers that are available in the cultural and heritage sector, and the different career routes available to them.”
Kris Overend, Education Manager at HOME, said:
“Our resource will give an insight into HOME as an arts organisation. It will provide teachers, students and parents with the chance to explore our building from top to bottom, whilst bumping into the various different people who work here. We hope the resource gives a wider understanding of the various job roles and responsibilities it takes to keep an organisation like HOME up and running.”
