MADE believes that knowledge about the kinds of careers you can find in the arts should be an essential part of every school’s careers programme. With this in mind, we brought together our experts on Youth Voice and Employability to begin building a leadership programme that would introduce young people aged 14+ to the arts & culture venues on their doorstep. Over 6 months, they will be hosted by 6 different venues and meet the inspirational people running them.
The second venue the group is being hosted by on their tour of arts & culture in Manchester is HOME!
We kicked off the day with talks from people in positions of leadership, including Karen, CEO, who recounted the story of her career so far. Phil, head of film programming, then introduced them to his role and gave them a creative problem-solving task.
They enjoyed free tickets to oscar-nominated animated film Robot Dreams, and a trip around the Manchester Open to view work exhibited by local artists.
We also invited them to watch the HOME young company rehearse their upcoming show, We're All Just Wasps in Glass Houses.
Here’s what they had to say:
“I felt thrilled and excited to be part of a creative programme. I enjoyed the activities, and the staff and other group members were lovely.”
“The MADE programme is a fantastic opportunity for me. It has enabled me to meet new people, who have the same interests I do, it is extremely fun and I am learning a lot from everyone involved.”
Next time, we’re heading to Manchester Art Gallery!
